Cats and jigsaw puzzles exist in completely different realities, and that is where the trouble starts. To a hooman, the puzzle is a calm, orderly activity. To a cat, it is an invitation. A flat surface appears. Tiny pieces are scattered. Someone is clearly asking for help.

The inspection phase comes first. A cat will sit directly in the middle of the puzzle, preferably on the most important section, and stare at you like this was always their spot. Pieces may be nudged off the table one by one, not out of malice, but curiosity. Gravity needs testing. Repeatedly.

Some cats insist on "assisting" by batting pieces around, chewing on corner tabs, or carrying one special piece away like a prized treasure. Others lie down on the puzzle entirely, forcing you to work around a warm, purring paperweight who refuses to move. Any attempt to relocate them is met with mild offense.

Despite the chaos, cats remain convinced they are essential to the process. When the puzzle is finally finished, they will sit on it one last time, satisfied. Clearly, the teamwork paid off.
